CHICAGO CHILDREN'S THEATRE TO LAUNCH FIRST-EVER
SUMMER CAMP AT FRANKLIN FINE ARTS CENTER, JULY 16-27

Get ready for some serious play with the creators of The Hundred Dresses, Jackie & Me, Goodnight Moon: The Musical and The Houdini Box!

Chicago, May 2, 2012 - Chicago Children's Theatre, which has made a big name for itself focusing on the production of first-rate professional children's theatre in Chicago, is expanding its operations with the launch of the company's first-ever Summer Theater Camp.

Families with kids ages 8 through 13 are encouraged to sign up now for limited spaces in Chicago Children's Theatre's new two-week Summer Camp, July 16-27, 2012. Camp will be held weekdays from 9 am to 3 pm at Franklin Fine Arts Center, 225 W. Evergreen Ave. in Chicago's Old Town neighborhood.

Over a two week period, Chicago Children's Theatre's summer camp will empower each child's unique, creative imagination. Guided by artists and arts educators with extensive experience in the Chicago theater industry, Chicago campers will learn to create their own stories and work as a team to turn those stories into one big theatrical adventure. Each day, campers will move between workshops in acting, story creation, movement and craftwork. They will dream up stories, take on characters, dance, run, sculpt and paint. Camp will culminate on Friday, July 27 at noon with a final production written, performed and designed by the campers, followed by a potluck picnic.

"No matter what their interest," said CCT Artistic Director Jacqueline Russell, "Chicago Children's Theatre's new Summer Camp is designed to introduce kids to a fun new set of tools to help better express themselves, and offer a variety of ways for kids to shine."

Before co-founding Chicago Children's Theatre in 2005, Russell launched the first Summer Camps at The Old Town School of Folk Music, and created Lookingglass Theatre's Summer Camps. She also consulted on the creation of Summer Camps at Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum before creating Camp Red Kite for Chicago Children's Theatre, tailored exclusively for children on the autism spectrum.

Tuition for two full weeks of fun and professional theater instruction is $700, plus a $25 registration fee (or, pay the complete camp tuition at the time of registration to waive the $25 registration fee.)
