In-Club screenings available to members and the public
Saturday, Oct. 13 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
BENTONVILLE, Ark., Oct. 3, 2012 – Over
the course of a lifetime, 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast
cancer, making it one of the leading causes of cancer deaths among
women. In support of Women’s Health Month and to contribute to the fight
against this disease, Sam’s Club
is offering free women’s health and vision screenings Saturday, Oct. 13
from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at all Sam’s Club locations with a pharmacy,
open to members and non-members alike.
Sam’s
Club locations nationwide are giving away more than 25,000 breast
self-exam kits during the free health screenings.* The kits include
educational literature about breast self-exams and an easy-to-use
take-home gel-filled pad to help women better detect changes in breast
tissue, such as a lump, that might require a follow-up exam by a
physician.
Along
with the free take-home kits for women, the screening program includes
free in-Club tests* for both men and women valued at up to $150, to
include:
- Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) screenings to test for potential women’s health issues due to issues with thyroid functionality
- Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) screenings to test for signs of prostate cancer in men
· Blood pressure
· Body mass index (BMI)
- Total cholesterol
- High-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol
- Glucose
- Vision testing/screening**
“Many
health issues affecting women often do not show symptoms and can be
identified only with testing,” said Jill Turner-Mitchael, senior vice
president, Sam’s Club Health and Wellness. “For the second year in a
row, Sam’s Club is committed to offering free screenings and kits that
lift awareness of important women’s health concerns like breast cancer
to better serve the communities in which we live and work.”
Sam’s Club has provided many additional women’s health tips in its current issue of Healthy Living Made Simple Magazine,
which is available online and at the Sam’s Club Pharmacy and Member
Service counters. For more information about the free health screenings,
visit SamsClub.com/healthyliving, or text SCREEN to 72671 to receive monthly reminders about health screenings at a local Sam’s Club. (Message and data rates may apply).
This
fall, Sam’s Club also has extended its health offerings further to
include immunizations such as flu and pneumonia shots, as well as
shingles, chickenpox, whooping cough and six other vaccines, all
administered by registered nurses. The immunizations program is a
collaboration between Sam’s Club and Mollen Immunization Clinics, and
vaccinations are available to anyone older than 3 years of age. To
